Lunch will not be provided during these free courses BUT two food trucks will be on site to fill up your tummies after your morning adventure. The El Amigo food truck will offer delicious Mexican food and the Broke Down BBQ truck will offer the usual suspects along with burgers.

Trailblaze CodeVA: Summiting Mountains with Computer Science Integration

Unleash the power of adventure in education by integrating Computer Science into your lessons—it's not just about meeting SOL requirements; it's about scaling new heights of engagement and excitement. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the computer science conceptual strands and focus on methods to help identify overlapping topics and concepts. Through this course, educators will design integrated lessons for their classroom using CodeVA's Computer Science Integration Guide and explore pre-made lessons with our facilitators skilled at integrating Computer Science into their own K-8th grade classrooms. You will receive 5 Recertification points after completing the session.

New Tools from the Trail Angel: CodeVA's Learning Bytes

Looking for new tools to help your students climb to new heights? Come join CodeVA on a choose your own adventure day. You will be able to choose one topic for the morning and one for the afternoon. You will receive 5 Recertification points after completing the session. Session topics include:

  • Computer Science Unplugged (9am - 11am)
  • Backward Design (9am - 11am)
  • Storytelling with Twine (1pm - 3pm)
  • Cybersecurity, Ciphers and Puzzles. (1pm - 3pm)

Please only register for one morning session and one afternoon session.

Audience

Educators from all K-12 grade levels and content areas, as well as any staff supporting student learning.

Knowledge Level

This professional learning is appropriate for all, regardless of computer science knowledge or experience.

Registration Notes

CodeVA professional learning is free for Virginia and DC public school educators, preservice students and educators, and Dept. of Defense Education Activity teachers.

Tuition applies to all out of state and private school educators. You can find out tuition costs HERE

Please note that you must have an approved VA Public School or DC Public School email domain to register. If you are not seeing a register button, it is due to one of the following reasons:

1. Your email is not all lowercase

2. Your email domain is not approved

3. Your profile is incomplete (a completed customer profile is required for registration).
