Twine for Educators

This asynchronous course allows educators to explore the Twine platform for interactive storytelling and consider how to apply it in their classroom.

Description

This course is offered asynchronously and is delivered via Canvas.

This course introduces educators to the Twine programming platform. Participants learn how to create Twine stories and programs using variables, and conditionals, and explore how to use Twine with students.

The Twine for Educators course has a dual focus--developing teachers' personal coding skills in Twine while also developing teachers' expectations for what teaching students to code might look like in their classrooms.

Through this asynchronous course, educators will explore the basics of creating and linking passages, creating branching pathways with multiple endings, using numeric and string variables and adding conditionals to reveal information to the user.

By the end of the course, participants can expect to have a beginner-level understanding of coding with Twine, considerations for student programming in Twine, and then apply their learning to their own classrooms and contexts.

Course Objectives

  • Use Twine to create interactive stories.
  • Utilize multimedia elements, such as images, to enhance the storytelling experience.
  • Use conditional logic and variables in stories made with Twine.
  • Explore how Twine might be integrated into different educational subjects and grade levels.
  • Familiarize themselves with the PRIMMLinks to an external site. (Predict, Run, Investigate, Modify and Make) pedagogical framework.

Audience

Educators from grades 4-12 and all content areas, as well as any staff supporting student learning.

Knowledge Level

Beginner - Participating educators need no knowledge or experience with the CS SOLs, CS content, or Twine.
