Micro Session #2: Overview of the Computer Science Standards

Micro Session #2 gives participants an opportunity to explore strands of the Virginia Computer Science standards.

Description

This introductory session explores the six strands of the Computer Science (CS) SOLs and the grade level and/or elective standards that they help frame. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of how each CS strand can be applied in the classroom and will be introduced to state provided accompanying resources and lessons developed by CodeVA.

Guiding Questions:
  • What are the strands in the Computer Science Standards of Learning and what do they mean?
  • How can I learn more about the six CS Strands?
  • Why does Virginia offer both integrated and elective computer science standards?

Prerequisites

Attendance of Micro Session #1 preferred, but not required

Audience

  • Educators from grades K-8 and all content areas, as well as any staff supporting student learning.
  • CS Ready Schools Impact Team Members

Knowledge Level

Beginner - Participating educators need no knowledge or experience with the CS SOLs or CS content

CodeVA professional learning is free for Virginia and DC public school educators, preservice students and educators, and Dept. of Defense Education Activity teachers.
