Micro Session #1: What is Computer Science?

Micro Session #1 gives participants an opportunity to explore the definition and examples of computer science.

Description

In this session, participants will be able to discover the fundamentals of computer science through exposure to the Virginia Standards of Learning Computer Science strands. They will then be able to define computer science and describe the importance of computer science learning within their own K-12 educational settings.

Course Objectives

Guiding Questions:
  • What is Computer Science and why is it necessary to include CS-focused knowledge and skills in our school’s curriculum?
  • What is the difference between Digital Learning Integration standards and the Computer Science standards?
  • How might we approach intentional computer science learning through content integration?

Audience

  • Educators from grades K-8 and all content areas, as well as any staff supporting student learning.
  • CS Ready Schools Impact Team Members

Knowledge Level

Beginner - Participating educators need no knowledge or experience with the CS SOLs or CS content
